A "Math" Question koped from Chi Hung's blog

From "http://blownote.blogspot.com/2008/06/stupid-chain-post.html"

----------------------

Saw some really stupid and ridiculous chain post on facebook:

This will Mess With Your Head.

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.

ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

----------------------

Lol.. give it a try.. i'll put the answer in black. highlight it with your mouse if you give up.

2 ways of looking at it:

1) From the motel's POV

- the motel received $30. it gave back $5. so it has only $25.

- out of the $5 given back, $3 given back to the 3 guys, $2 taken by bellboy

- Conclusion: NO MONEY MISSING

2) From the 3 guys' POV

- the 3 guys paid $10 each, and then given back $1 each. so we effectively gave the motel $9x3 = $27

- the motel received $27, $25 is paid for the rental of the room

- the other $2? the bellboy took it

- Conclusion: NO MONEY MISSING

This is just a trick question.. The sender threw in the $2 to mess people up. The $2 taken by the bellboy is actually paid by the 3 guys but many won't think about that.
